Community Service-Learning (CSL) provides services to students, faculty, staff and community partners to encourage community service-learning that is mutually beneficial to the university and our local community. Below are a number of resources and ways the CSL can assist you with service-learning projects, service-learning course development, reflection, and programming.

Service-learning combines community service with structured opportunities for learning. Students achieve specific learning objectives, engage in active learning, integrate theory with practice, and deepen understanding of the complex issues that underlie social problems. Faculty Service-Learning Handbook

The University of Maryland Faculty Handbook for Service-Learning is available to help faculty get started in implementing service-learning courses and to help faculty experienced in service-learning to enhance their courses. It includes numerous practical tools and suggests further resources. We are currently revising the Handbook and will be making updates soon.

Undergraduate Teaching Assistants in Service-Learning Program (UTA-SL)

The Undergraduate Teaching Assistants in Service-Learning (UTA-SL) Program is a joint venture of the Center for Teaching Excellence and Community Service-Learning to increase the number and enhance the quality of service-learning courses across campus.

Community Service-Learning compiles a list of service-learning courses offered each semester. The list can serve as a guide for students seeking service-learning courses as well as faculty searching for examples of service-learning on Maryland's campus. Examples of past service-learning projects are available too.

A list of web resources that include example service project ideas, information on adding service-learning into a class curriculum, and sample syllabi from many different fields.
